Rooted and Rising

If you could peek into the pages of my journal, you would see a reoccurring theme…Words, written almost as a letter to myself. Words about the promise of His presence. It’s what I always go back to. And I can’t hear it, or write it enough. Over and over, I tell myself, “He is with me.”

In Holy Yoga, we have a saying-“Root down to rise up.” When we root ourselves into Him, and into the promise of His presence, we can rise up in confidence…security…assurance…peace.

Joshua 1:9 ESV

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (emphasis mine)

If I can be honest with you for a minute….I can very easily find myself anxious. I am all too familiar with worry, wondering, questioning, second-guessing. Perhaps the opposite of “confidence.”

“Confidence” in Hebrew is “batach,” which is defined as a refuge. (Strong’s) A “refuge” is a shelter or protection from distress. (Merriam-Webster)

Psalm 62:8 ESV

“Trust in him at all times, O people; pour out your heart before him; God is a refuge for us.” (emphasis mine)

My friend, let us be rooted in our refuge. Rooted in God our Shelter and Protector of our hearts. Then, we can rise up confident, that we have all we need for today. Confident that we are where we are supposed to be. Sure in who we are because we know whose we are. Secure in His love, that is always enough.

“For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”

Let faith rise up in our hearts. He is with us and for us. He never slumbers or sleeps. He never gets distracted. He always has time for us. He waits for us. He delights in us. Never annoyed with us, but always attentive. Plant your feet in who He is today. And watch your heart soar with the joy of the Lord.
